Step into the world of Ali Dowlaty, a self-taught photographer with a deep-rooted passion for capturing life’s fleeting moments. Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1980, Ali embarked on a new chapter of his life in Budapest, Hungary, after completing high school.
As a child, Ali’s fascination with preserving memories was evident. His parents gifted him an automatic Konica film camera, planting the seed for his love of photography. In 2005, Ali’s journey as a photographer began, learning the craft with his brother’s DSLR camera and exploring the art of analog photography for two years.
Ali’s understanding of photography flourished when he took charge of the entire creative process, from capturing the image to developing and printing the final masterpiece. He believes photography uniquely combines physics, chemistry, technology, and the artist’s discerning taste and intellect. This combination breathes life into an artwork that either remains etched in our memories or fades into oblivion.
To Ali, photographic negatives possess a life of their own. Over time, they can acquire a fresh perspective and convey new messages. This evolution depends on the creator’s growth, learning, and life experiences, which breathe new life into the image.

The collection of photographs in the book features locations that hold deep personal significance for Ali. On the one hand, there is Hungary, where he has spent much of his adult life, and on the other, Iran, his homeland. The captivating images have been meticulously selected from the cities of Budapest and Yazd, showcasing the unique connection between these two countries.
The sisterhood agreements between their respective cities serve to emphasize this connection further. Budapest and Tehran signed a sisterhood agreement on the 4th of May, 2015, fostering increased collaboration in tourism, culture, and the economy. Another fascinating sisterhood story emerged between Yazd, Iran, and Jászberény, Hungary, signed on the 30th of November, 2007. This bond dates back to the 13th century, when people from Yazd settled near the rivers Zagyva and Tarna, along with the Kuns Tribe, in what is now Jászberény, east of Budapest.
